Conservative members of Ashby Town Council are celebrating the public endorsement of a Neighbourhood Plan which will help safeguard against unwanted development in the town.
Ashby residents had been asked in a local referendum to approve or reject the document put forward by the Conservative controlled Town Council; which sets out local planning policies for the town up to the year 2031 and beyond.
A ratio of more than ten to one of Ashby residents supported approving the document, which will now be formalised by the planning authority.
A spokesman for the Ashby Town Council Conservative group said "The Conservative Administration on Ashby Town Council came up with the idea of a Neighbourhood Plan when it became apparent the way the town was developing; and to give direction to future growth in Ashby, giving residents a real say in the way the town should grow and develop.
"We have been working for Ashby residents on this plan for over 5 years to bring the plan to the referendum stage. Our passion is to work for Ashby people to continually protect and improve our wonderful town."
